First, I need to point out the not-so-obvious fact that this is the stainless steel version of the "Water Distiller, Countertop, White Enamel" product sold by MegaHome/NutriTeam.
To make a long story short, I got this product last night and this morning I woke up to perfectly tasting distilled water.
For the long story...I read all the reviews for the white color version and decided this was worth a try. I placed my order by noon Friday and received the distiller just last night (Tuesday). I was anxious to test this distiller for myself because it might save me quite a bit of money if I could stop buying bottled water. The only negative reviews I'd read seemed to focus on the plastic or metallic flavor of the distilled water. The manufacturer suggests it can happen when new bottles smell like plastic. As soon as I opened the box, I searched for the plastic bottle to smell it. There was no distinct plastic smell that I could detect. One of the reviewers pointed out that your geographical location affects the mineral content in the water and thus can strongly affect its flavor. Living north of Philadelphia, water has a fairly neutral flavor and there's no high mineral content that I know about. Still, I filled the bottle with water filtered through a regular Brita filter I have connected to my faucet. Filling the bottle to the very top is exactly the amount of water required to fill the distiller container right to the fill line. Followed the simple instructions and started the distiller. It wasn't as noisy as I expected, however it's loud enough that you might not want to run it during a dinner party. (Makes good white noise if you need it.) It's supposed to take 4-6 hrs to distil one gallon of water. Warm water may shorten the process. Since I ran it overnight, with cold water, I have no idea of how long it took. That will be an experiment for the weekend. Come morning, the distiller was done and the water was surprisingly fresh and good tasting.
For those concerned about whether distilled water draws minerals from your body, therefore raising acidity levels, read about the benefits of adding pH Drops before drinking. Cheers!

I use this distiller almost daily and I'm still very happy with my purchase and very glad I got it. Water tastes perfect, whether I pre-filtered it or not. I was surprised another reviewer had problems with leaks, since I've none whatsoever. The unit makes a very useful white noise, which is better for reading than for conversation though it doesn't bother me (I usually run the unit at night). I have not noticed much difference in distilling time, whether I use hot or cold water. I do get a lot of mineral deposits left over. However, I can remove them easily with a sponge or with the solvent that was provided.

I know all filters are not the same and I wanted to make sure I was getting the original that came with the purifier, because it works great. I was very disappointed when it arrived. The filter is a very cheap one made with wire and I am sure it won't work as well. They should not show the logo if it is not the real thing.

It has been in my science lab for 4 days and there is no difference in the air quality. If I put my face up to it I can feel the stream of air that its moving....but its extremely small. I read the instructions EnergAir sent with it...and I am doing everything correctly. I think this would work in a tiny room (like at a vet or doctors office exam rooms) but not a medium to large room like the instructions say. Bummer...I was really hoping it would work.

HEPA-5030 Duracraft Air Cleaner Replacement Filter Review

Reason being is because of the misery of allergy season and declared that I wasn't going to suffer through this again. I have discovered since the first purchase that one needs to have one purifier for the living room and another one for the bed room.
Replacement filters are still available on line; just search for Duracraft 5030.
We have three dogs and the dust and dander was getting to be a real problem in our house. So we brought the Duracraft out of the garage ( it was mothballed) purchased a new filter and now we are in business again.
The Duracraft Hepa 260 which is identical to the Honeywell HEPA 200, has three speeds; Super (near hurricane strength) High and Silent. We run ours on High. Now it's only fair to warn you that the 260 moves a lot of air with it's powerful motor; which is louder than our Honeywell 18155 but that is a good thing. I we want a powerful motor to exchange as much volume of air as possible; also compared to the 18155, the Duracraft has more intake vents and moves more air too.
The 260 has an optional ozone switch; the jury is still out as to the pros and cons of that issue; but at least you have that option available to you.
The only thing that's missing would be a change or clean filter lights like on the 18155; but that is a minor issue. We prefer the Duracraft 260 over the Honeywell 18155 by far and it's a disappointment it is no longer available.
We vacuumed the 260 when the filter looks dirty thus saving $$$ n a new filter. Which doesn't seem to effect it's performance. TRUE Hepa filters are still available at iallergy (online) if you search duracraft 260 or model 5030.
AHAM rateing for this unit is 170 for tabacco, dust & pollen each.
If the white noise will be an issue with you, you may want to concider the less powerful Honeywell 18155
We recommend that you operate your Honeywell air cleaner 24 hours a day because indoor air can be quickly contaminated by activity in a room, infiltration of outside air, and generation by sources of contamination. While all the air in a room will not be processed by the air cleaner, the more air circulated through the filter, the more filtered air returned to the room. Portable air cleaners will be much more effective in rooms where all doors and windows are closed.
The Honeywell True HEPA air cleaner is ready to begin cleaning the air as soon as it is removed from the carton and plugged in. Because it circulates air in a 360 degree pattern around the air cleaner, it can be placed on the floor in almost any location. However, for best performance the air outlet slot should not be blocked for at least 1 meter (three feet) in all directions.
Due to the large volume of air drawn towards the air cleaner, surrounding areas should be cleaned and/or vacuumed frequently to prevent buildup. This may help keep your home cleaner and may extend the life of your pre-filter. If the unit is placed on light colored carpeting, a small mat or rug should be used to ease cleaning and prevent any permanent staining. This is particularly important in homes with heavier contamination from smoking or fireplaces.

Upon contacting them, they have no return policy, except to ship it back at my expense, as well as having to eat the initial shipping. Since there was no choice, I did so, although I am now at the point where the 2 shipment costs are starting to approach the cost of the unit itself.
When they received it, it has mysteriously become "damaged", despite being in the same wrapper and box, therefore ineligible for any refund at all. My next step would be to file a damage claim with UPS. I can guess how well that will go.
Needless to say, this is my last experience with this company

(More customer reviews)This product comes with two filters (specifications unknown) and two "gaskets" which adhere the unit to the plane's air nozzle. In my experience, the first application worked but the second application did not stick. After changing the gasket, it still did not stick. In addition, although there is a "centering ring" for small nozzles, there seems to be a problem fitting the unit onto other sizes of nozzles. I will return this product because there is a problem fitting it onto plane air nozzles, the filter is probably no more effective than using tissues, the adhesive gasket has a short shelf-life, and the product is way overpriced.

(More customer reviews)We bought the filter at the recommendation of our allergist. We bought it for our bedroom to try to cope with my nighttime nasal stuffiness. We had already removed the rug. After owning it a year, we haven't seen any dust accumulation on the inner stage 2 filter.
On the other hand, our central air/heat filter--where we've installed a top of the line filter--may be taking all the work away from junior, so I can't say for sure whether the fault lies with the filter.
In other words, it may be that if you've already put a quality inline filter in the central system, this portable filter is redundant.
I'm now investigating a humidifier (my son swears by it), and I've started using a neti pot (nasal saline rinse from what looks like a little tea pot). Neither of these were on the allergist's recommended environmental steps to take list. My recommendation: try these two things first.

17005, Honeywell QuietCare Programmable Air Purifier with Permanent True HEPA Filter Review

(More customer reviews)So far I really like this air cleaner. I moved up to this model from a smaller Honeywell cleaner for a couple of reason. One being more air volume moved per hour, and the second is the larger, more "permanent" filter. The pre-filter should be changed every 2-3 month, but the HEPA filter should last 2-3 years according to Honeywell. You can get the pre-filter for $7-$12 so that's not too bad. I had to replace the filter on my smaller unit every month or two and it was $15 each time.
I do wish this cleaner was a touch more quiet, but what noise it does have would not prevent me from purchasing this unit again.
I have this unit located in the garage not far from a 19" TV that is also remote controlled. Although, I don't use the remote that came with the air cleaner, I did find that the mute button on my TV remote would not only shut the air cleaner off, but would also reset to it factory specifications, so I would loose the time on the clock and any of the two programs you can run.
This started happening right after I got it, and it took me the next day to finally figure out what was causing the random shut-downs. I'm glad now I didn't pack the unit up and return it. The simple solution was to cut a little piece of black electrical tape and place it over the IR eye of the air cleaner. Problem solved.

One was actually oozing the stuff. Now the house smells like motor oil; not good for those of us who are chemically sensitive. Not highly impressed; I would like to find a better vendor that carries these older replacement parts.

The warranty is unbeatable. It's super easy to care for. The filter is very accessible. My husband has terrible sinus problems and this machine has been keeping him medication free since we purchased it. You can sign up for an automatic filter replacement program where the new filter is delivered automatically when it's time to change (every six months is recommended in order to maintain the 10 year warranty).
