EnergAire Ionizer Review

EnergAire Ionizer

So I purchased this for my classroom (Science lab w/ reptiles) to reduce odors and refresh the air. When it arrived it was scratched...but it arrived very fast. It has been in my science lab for 4 days and there is no difference in the air quality. If I put my face up to it I can feel the stream of air that its moving....but its extremely small. I read the instructions EnergAir sent with it...and I am doing everything correctly. I think this would work in a tiny room (like at a vet or doctors office exam rooms) but not a medium to large room like the instructions say. Bummer...I was really hoping it would work.

i just ordered my 4th replacement model. that's right, my FOURTH. my first model lasted one year before it died (and i'm fastidious with my cleaning of the unit), and they have sent me 2 refurbished replacements in the past 2 months that have died within 3-4 weeks after arrival. today they said they will send out a new model based on these problems. and guess what? my original model had a "full five year warranty", but the newer units only have one year on their warranty. gee, i wonder why...............................for the record, i own a quadra as well, and it had never given us any trouble at all.

Sharper Image SI724 Ionic Breeze Air Purifier Filter Review

Sharper Image SI724 Ionic Breeze Air Purifier Filter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Purchased one two weeks ago before the USD50 price increase including a 10% coupon discount. It came with a mini $80 bathroom air cleaner with the purchase.
The design is 5 stars. Finally an air cleaner that doesn't look like it belongs to your Grandma's house. The fit and finish is awesome. Parts are easy to pull out due to simple locking mechanisms from the two grilles, to the blades and the Ozone grille.
The product feature:
It cleans the air via an Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) with 19-blades that holds an area of 1,300 sq inches. This is versus the Ionic Breeze GP that uses a Philips UV bulb that needs replacement and costs a lot to operate. Because of the use of the ESP technology, they eliminated the UV bulb and the product earned an "Energy Star" badge. Sharper Image claims it costs less than USD10 to operate annually.
This product has the highest Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) due its four brushless 120mm fans. Brushless means quiet performance versus the older Ionic Breeze which is whisper quiet due to no fans, but takes much, much longer to clean the air.
And with the seal of approval from the British Allergy Foundation, rest assured the product performs.
My opinion:
1. The product was packaged well. The box comes with a handle so it's easy to cary from the store to the room.
2. No installation required. You just pull out the whole unit, unwrap the electric cord, remove two tapes that hold the front and rear grilles together and viola!
3. Super quiet operation thanks to the 4 brushless fans. You WILL hear the fans SPIN as they pull air from the rear and bring clean air out to the front. But theoretically you won't hear the fans' mechanisms.
However, my experience after one week of use is that one of the four fans was starting to give in by making some noise. At night it sounds like a cricket. So I immediately wrote to Sharper Image and after two days they responded back by giving me a UPS shipping return label which after they receive the defective product they will send me a NEW replacement since I'm within their 60-day guaranty. I politely refused and told them I'm just walking in to the store where I got the product so I can get a quick replacement right there and then.
So I did just that. No hassle. They checked the product I returned and listened to the fan making noise. The guy agreed it was noisy so he got me a new one.
Upon reaching home, I unpacked the unit once again and let it operate. This time the third fan was making the same noise (but very weak at this stage). So I wouldn't be surprised if it would create the same noise a few weeks from now.
But I did check out their floor model and put my ear against all the four fans - it didn't create the kind of noise similar to the two units I had and theirs was in use longer.
If the fans give in again, I will return it straight to Sharper Image for their evaluation. When the warranty expires, I'll search for replacement brushless fans since computer stores carry similar items, too. I did remove one of the fans and it was simple plug and play.
4. The manual states the unit will clean the air fine in the Quiet mode. But for high traffic areas, there are 4 speeds to contend with PLUS an extra high speed BOOST function to clean the air for 20-minutes.
5. There is an unlabled light sensor on the top panel that helps dim the lights on the unit so it wouldn't be annoying bright at night.
6. There is a convenient cord wrap built in the bottom of the unit. So excess cords can be hidden away from view.
7. CLEANING:
There is an included cleaning brush which the manual states this is the only brush that should be used to clean the metal plates. It's as easy as pulling out the plates and bringing it in your bath tub or shower. Spray the plates with a window cleaner like "Windex". Insert brush front and back and gently rub to try and remove stuck dirt on the plates. The tricky part is trying to use the supplied gentle brush because after a few rubbing, the bristles all go out of place which makes rubbing the accumulated dirt impossible to clean 100%. You'll know what I'm talking about when you do the cleaning.
This is the problem with dry Electrostatic Precipitator technology. The dirt will stick to the plates like glue in time so infrequent cleaning will create more stuck dirt. I wonder how the plates will look like in a years' time. Unless one religiously cleans the metal plates weekly, it wouldn't have as much cleaning power in a few years.
Finish cleaning up by using a handheld shower head so you can work your way around the inside of the metal plates (otherwise use a water spritzer). Dry them by either leaving it for hours OR use a small fan and in less than an hour it's ready to use once more - no hassle drying. The unit comes with a protective drying feature that helps the plates dry up IF you insert them damp. I wouldn't recommend it. So by using the fan technique above to help it dry, the drying light will never come on.
8. There is no Negative ION feature. I guess the only logic is that they are reserving this for a better product in a few months. I wonder how much this will cost since this present Hybrid GP has jumped to USD449.99. I had to bite on the old price and hopefully invest in a better one when it's time.
9. The manual states to use the BOOST function when ridding the air from smell after cooking. I did this in the kitchen, but the oil smells still persisted after hours and despite multiple BOOST uses throughout the day. I did have to give in at night and use an aerosol air sanitizer like "OUST" to quickly reach the A/C air ducts. Obviously this is the weakness of the Hybrid GP. It can only clean the air that reaches the unit. You will still need to use an aerosol air sanitizer to clean the other places.
----------
THE VERDICT:
I don't wake up with as much Nasal Drip if the Hybrid GP is on. It doesn't completely eliminate my allergies, but it helps clear my breathing a little bit better. However, if the central home A/C is on, then I definitely wake up with a clogged nose. The unit can't catch all the flying germs and dirt in time before I breathe them in. Other reviewers will confirm this.
So my concern at this point are the brushless fans which do tend to create noise. Time will tell how sturdy they really are. I hope they are able to offer replacement fans for customers rather than bring the whole unit in for service, which is unnecessary, inconvenient and expensive to do. Anyone with a screwdriver can replace the fan.
So in total 3 stars for the problematic fans, much hype to try and clean the air and cooking smells as fast as the A/C can deliver more dirt and an expensive price tag to boot.
But still a product worth keeping if only they lowered the price.

I basically used it instead of a Quadra to clean up household dust, cat litter dust, odors, and smoke from a couple smokers. (The blades got coated in tan gunk from pipe smoke that I'm glad didn't end up in my lungs.) I moved it from room to room. It worked great for about a year and a half before the poor thing just gave out. The light worked, but it stopped producing a "breeze." Since then, everything in the house has become coated in a layer of dust, and I frequently have bouts of sneezing in the morning. Time to get a new one.

Ionic Pro Ionic Air Purifier Review

Ionic Pro Ionic Air Purifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
One of the big misconceptions about air Ionizers from reviews below is that people expect them to collect dust inside somewhere and get rid of it that way, where the biggest advantage of the technology is actually reducing dust, polen suspended in the air! The way it works, is that Ionizer releases negatively charged Ions into the air, they attach to dust particles that float around and force them to be "dropped down" onto the more positively charged surfaces such as your floor, shelves etc. Yes, part of them gets trapped inside the unit that you must clean. To evaluate the effectiveness of Ionic Pro performance, you should look on the sunny day in your room and see how much dust you actually have floating in the air and NOT how much dust your TV or book shelves have collected! Dust from the air will be attracted to the floor carpet/wood and still will need to be vacuumed or dusted. Only fan/filter-type air purifiers collect dust inside the filter so you have to replace it. Remember-this technology makes your air inside the room dust free, not claims to collect all the dust inside the unit!
I used the unit for days, and the amount of floating dust is minimal to non existent!

Sharper Image Ionic Breeze® Quadra® Silent Air Purifier (SI637BLK) Review

Sharper Image Ionic Breeze® Quadra® Silent Air Purifier (SI637BLK)
Average Reviews:

I purchased two of the Ionic Breeze Quadra's for my condominium directly from Sharper Image. The total area of my unit is about 1000 ft^2 with limited windows to open, therefore I am forced to run my air handling equipment most of the year. This leaves my unit quite dusty, I also have many smokers to deal with that leave that persistent musty odor that is hard to get rid of, especially in humid climates. After just a couple of days, the Quadra's had virtually eliminated the musty smoke smell and I have noticed a dramatic decrease in dust on all horizontal surfaces, especially my black counter tops. It really works well; my only beef is the cost. The Quadra's are really quite simple and lightweight (like a plastic model). There is just not the justification for the price. The deal I received allowed me to buy the second unit at a 50% discount. A more realistic price would have been 50% off for both. Ingenious and capable as it is, does not necessarily justify the cost even if other devices with HEPA certifications are more expensive. Bottom line, works great on dust and smoke, though quite pricey.

Ionic Pro 90IP01RF01 Turbo Ionic Room Air Purifier Review

Ionic Pro 90IP01RF01 Turbo Ionic Room Air Purifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my second try at using an ionic air cleansing system. The Ionic Pro is modestly priced and the technology has come a long way since the first high cost electronic air cleaners. When compared to more traditional electric motor and multi filter HEPA units, the Ionic Pro uses less electriciy and runs quietly.
Ionic blade technology has long been used by NASA and in commercial aircraft. It began finding its way into homes initally as add-on units to newly installed furnaces. The current stand-alone towers evolved as separate appliances.
Like the other "Ionic" air cleaning systems, this unit still emits ozone. Though billed in the owner's guide as a "clean scent," the ozone aroma can be overpowering to some people. If you have ever been in a room where power tools have been in use, an electric train set has been running, or a new computer monitor was turned on for the first time you have encountered ozone. In all fairness, the Ionic Pro has come a long way from its predecessors in terms of filtering, basically breaking up 03 ozone into 02 oxygen, the electric arc scent. When I bought my first ionic air cleansers several years ago I ended up returning them because of the annoying ozone scent -- even though I was the only person in my household who seemed to notice the ozone smell. There are ionic air cleaners that have just about licked this problem with the addition of three filters. Unfortunately these brands are commensurately more expensive. The Ionic Pro is equipped with a solitary filter. Thus far during my use of the product the scent is bearable. However, for those who are intolerant of even a hint of ozone I recommend you opt for a more expensive multi-filter brand.
As other reviewers have noted, the Ionic Pro is hardly maintenance free. This is the price you pay for not having to buy expensive HEPA replacement filters and using less electricity. The collection blades must be cleaned at least every week. The downside to this is that the manufacturer recommends that the blades be allowed to dry 24 hours before reinstalling them in the unit. The booklet recommends that you order an additional set of blades. Although I am not yet at the point of ordering a second set of blades I did notice that they are now hard to find for this particular unit.
The other challenge with this unit is that it is not designed to handle larger airborne debris such as pet hair. Unlike a true HEPA filter that simply screens out the hair, any hair entering the Ionic Pro will cause it snap and crackle until you vacuum it out. In reading other reviews on the Ionic Pro I want to point out that most of the debris causing the crackling will not be found on the collection blades. There is a thin wire filament toward the rear of the unit. It has its own cleaning swipe that can be accessed at the top of the tower, but that will usually not stop the crackle. I use a long thin bristle brush, the type you use to clean the coils under a refrigerator, and brush off the outside and inside of the rear air inlets behind the wire. This does the trick.
Prior to buying the Ionic Pro I had two Honeywell circular HEPA air cleaners. With a child in the family with allergies it is a fact of life that you change your furnace filters regularly and own one or more air cleaning systems. Mind you, I have no immediate plans to dispose of the hard working Honeywell units. Even my son's allergist recommended that we stick to using true HEPA air cleaning systems versus ionizing tower units. Still I noticed an ever increasing number of offices, including medical office waiting rooms, using ionic air cleaners. More challenging was the fact that my HEPA unit uses expensive filters that can no longer be found on store shelves. Although you can buy the charcoal pre-filter (designed to fit any number of air cleaning systems) in stores like WalMart, the large cylandrical filters are only available through mail order -- and they are not cheap. As an added note, the original filters for my unit are no longer available. I recently ordered two 2-pack "permanent" replacement filters complete with spacers and two additional charcoal pre-filters. The replacement cost, admittedly to change the filters in two Honeywell units, came to $179.00.
Another selling point for the Ionic Pro is that it is much quieter than the Honeywell. My teenagers keep shutting off the old reliable HEPA units while watching television because it is too noisy. As there is no benefit to an air cleaner unless it is running I decided to add the Ionic Pro as a second line of allergin defense.
There are a lot of varied opinions on the usefulness of Ionic Pro. The product works well, but you should not view it as a solitary cure filtering the air in your home.

Improve indoor air quality while removing unpleasant odors and allergens with this turbo-powered air purifier from Ionic Pro. The air purifier captures room impurities as small as 1 micron in size, varying from dust, dust mite debris, pet dander, pollen, and tobacco smoke. The quiet purifier quietly circulates air in, collects undesirable particles, and then releases clean air back into the environment.
Small enough for desktop placement, the air purifier suits large rooms or offices up to 500 square feet in area. The appliance emits a positive charge into the room's environment to positively charge particles in the air. As air circulates back into the air purifier, the charged particles naturally gravitate and cling to the purifier's negatively charged metal collection blades. The front-loaded collection blades allow for easy removal and cleaning. The air purifier features a grounded plug for use in grounded-style outlets. With one-push button settings, the purifier offers multiple speed options. An LED display indicates the selected power level. As with any electric appliance, read the manual and all enclosed instructions prior to use. Ionic Pro offers a limited warranty for this item. Manufactured in China, the air purifier measures 30 by 10 by 11-1/2 inches and weighs 13 pounds upon shipping.

3Q Electrostatic Ionic Air Purifier Review

I bought one of these about a year and 1/2 ago b/c it was cheaper then Sharper Images but was doubtful it would work well or for very long b/c it was cheaper.
I placed it in my bedroom when I got home from work and let it work it's magic, SILENT magic...it is really quiet!, while I sat in the living room. About 45 minutes later I decided to go check and make sure everything was going as it should. I turned the corner and the smell of fresh cool air hit me. It was SO nice! The only way I could describe the air is to say is smelled like mountain top air with a water fall near by. That's how fresh and clean it smelled.
Now, I'm thinking, "OK, it smells good, but is it really working?" I push a button and pull out the filter, yes, it's THAT easy, and I can see little fuzzies of cat hair (I have two) and dust (I have a lot) clinging to the filter! WOW! It actually was cleaning the air!
I promptly went out and bought them for every room in my house and I couldn't be happier.
There is one thing it does that some my consider bad but I like it. When the metal, re-usable filter is dirty and can't hold anymore, the unit tends to make a rattling sound when you turn it on. Nothing loud but once you wipe off the filter, and it really is easy to clean, it doesn't make the noise anymore.
I will always have these, or this brand, in my house. I run all four of my every night when I go to bed and I've had them for about a year and 1/2 and and they are still going strong! I love them!!!

This is an electronic air purifier. It uses what is known as an ionizer to filter out the dirty air. The electronic air purifiers have two sections for getting rid of dirty air. One section is for ionizing and the other section is for collecting the dirt. In the ionizing section, dirty air particles pass between ionizing wires and plates connected to a high voltage power supply. Over 8000 volts ionizes the air, creating positive ions which attach to the particles leaving them with an intense electrical charge. The charged particles then move to the collection section, where they encounter closely-spaced, oppositely-charged collector plates. Positively-charged particles attach to the negative plates and negatively-charged particles attach to the positive plates. Negative ions are important to how we feel ,and an air ionizer creates more negative ions when there aren't enough. This process removes the small pollutants from the air we breathe. With the air purifier the air is clean: NO CIGARETTE SMOKE, NO AIRBORNE PARTICLES FLOATING AROUND, NO ODORS, NO POLLUTED AIR. Choose from two cleaning levels, depending on the condition of the air or the size of room. Slim tower design takes up little floor space. It's 16" tall×6" diameter.

I was skeptical about purchasing this product, but now I am so happy that I did! I have pets and there is a smoker in the household and I must tell you for the size of this thing it is fantastic at eliminating orders. It works perfectly on a room 24X16 and smaller. I can place this product in a room and within in an hour or less the smell of smoke or any other bad order is completely GONE!! I recommend this product to anyone who has pets, allergies, or has a smoker in the house. This product eliminates the smell of pets, smoke and just about anything else. I will be purchasing another one, but this one has been working so well that I haven't been in a rush to buy another one just yet. It is worth every penny! Plus, the maintenance is a breeze..there are no disgusting filters to change or clean. You just pop out the Ionic lamp, wipe down with a clean, dry cloth and place it back in the machine. Ionic Pro 90IP01TA01 TURBO TA500 Ionic Room Air Purifier Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We chose this model because it was reputed to clear the air of not only dust and allergens but mold as well which was a key selling point. Another selling point was that it did not require replaceable filters. The unit is quiet.
Particles collect on flat metal slats and a light comes on that tells you it needs cleaning. The slats are quite dirty when cleaning time comes so you know it's collecting something.
We've found however that our unit starts to make a crackly noise sort of like static electricity when the slats need to be cleaned, long before the cleaning light comes on. So we clean it when the static noise comes instead of waiting.
It's easy to clean. The slat house pops right out and you wipe it down with a damp cloth or paper towels. The towels are always black with whatever the unit has collected from the air which really makes you wonder what's in the air.
The unexpected benefit is that we don't need to dust as often. The area stays much cleaner. I wish I could put several more throughout the house just for this benefit alone! Anything that makes cleaning easier is a big plus in my book!

Ionic Pro CA200T Twin Pack Compact Ionic Air Purifier with Bonus Car Ionizers Review

Ionic Pro CA200T Twin Pack Compact Ionic Air Purifier with Bonus Car Ionizers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I guess my first review got rejected for the mention of a certain website regarding the word ripoff. This was a fairly important point, so I'll try to make note of why. Unfortunately my first review was a little better, but here goes:
First I'll give a report of my experiences with product failure and customer service, then I'll give some general impressions after using the unit for a little less than a year.
Recently my red 'clean' light came on, and no matter how clean the blades and wires were, the clean light would come on after the unit was powered on. This happens after 11 months of mostly continuous use.
I emailed Ionic pro, and got a phone number to call. I called this number and they gave me another phone number to call. It turns out that the first phone number was for Ionic Pro sales, and the second was for retail sales (even though my email specified "I bought this thing from Amazon").
The second phone call resulted in the need to troubleshoot. Since I had done some research online, and since I had a second unit, I knew it was the unit itself - not the blades. If I didn't have the twin pack I wouldn't have had the ability to diagnose this problem - with or without the service representative.
It could have been the blades - apparently running the unit on high power shortens the blade life. The blades "dull" and must be replaced. Or something in the body of the unit breaks and the whole unit needs replaced.
My option was as follows. Fax a copy of my sales receipt to a bogus fax number. This is where my first review was stopped. Looking this phone/fax number online gave disturbing results leading me to believe it was a bogus fax (the ripoff report).
After (or in addition to faxing) I had to ship the unit to them with a copy of the receipt. When they got the unit they would call me for my credit card number so they could ship a new unit. The joke here, is that I pay to ship the broken unit to them, and I pay for shipping on the new unit. I have no idea how much it would cost for me to ship to them, but the shipping of the new unit via USPS was $29.99. So I can only imagine that my under warranty replacement would cost me roughly $60. The replacement process seems rather inefficient, costly, and has some suspicious details.
I must say the representative on the second phone call was nice and helpful. But the service options are disappointing.
All in all, this product is fairly noisy. When it buzzes you are supposed to lift a little lever to clean the wires, this hardly makes a difference. It was quiet for a few days, then I was never able to attain silence again - no matter how clean everything looked.
There is also an annoying bright blue LED that leaves a nice bright spot on the ceiling. Sure this could be covered up with tape.
After a few weeks of what I thought was success with this product, I almost bought a set for my parents. I'm certainly glad I didn't. Given the costs of under warranty replacement, the sale price is no real bargain. I have yet to decide whether I'll return the unit and pay IP another $60, but I doubt it.
