(More customer reviews)I decided to replace the original filter on my GE refrigerator after about 10 months when the "change filter" light came on. I went to the local hardware store and found a replacement for $49 plus tax. It seemed expensive, so I decided to check Amazon instead and found these along with the OEM GE filters.
I was reluctant to try a filter other than the GE just to save a few bucks, but if they are identical, why waste money? Besides, Brita is probably better known than GE for filters. Anyway, the filter looks, fits and works just like the original. I have noticed no difference in water flow or noise. The water tastes clean and looks clear.
One note - as per the instructions you should pre-fill the filter at the tap before installation and then run about 10 glasses of water through the new filter before use to stabilize the flow.
As for the vendor - Fridge Filters, I found that you cannot track their packages online as you can with most things purchased from Amazon, but the filter arrived in Florida 4 days after my order was placed. I gave the product and the vendor 5 stars, not that I get particularly excited about a water filter, but there were no negatives to take a star away.

First, I need to point out the not-so-obvious fact that this is the stainless steel version of the "Water Distiller, Countertop, White Enamel" product sold by MegaHome/NutriTeam.
To make a long story short, I got this product last night and this morning I woke up to perfectly tasting distilled water.
For the long story...I read all the reviews for the white color version and decided this was worth a try. I placed my order by noon Friday and received the distiller just last night (Tuesday). I was anxious to test this distiller for myself because it might save me quite a bit of money if I could stop buying bottled water. The only negative reviews I'd read seemed to focus on the plastic or metallic flavor of the distilled water. The manufacturer suggests it can happen when new bottles smell like plastic. As soon as I opened the box, I searched for the plastic bottle to smell it. There was no distinct plastic smell that I could detect. One of the reviewers pointed out that your geographical location affects the mineral content in the water and thus can strongly affect its flavor. Living north of Philadelphia, water has a fairly neutral flavor and there's no high mineral content that I know about. Still, I filled the bottle with water filtered through a regular Brita filter I have connected to my faucet. Filling the bottle to the very top is exactly the amount of water required to fill the distiller container right to the fill line. Followed the simple instructions and started the distiller. It wasn't as noisy as I expected, however it's loud enough that you might not want to run it during a dinner party. (Makes good white noise if you need it.) It's supposed to take 4-6 hrs to distil one gallon of water. Warm water may shorten the process. Since I ran it overnight, with cold water, I have no idea of how long it took. That will be an experiment for the weekend. Come morning, the distiller was done and the water was surprisingly fresh and good tasting.
For those concerned about whether distilled water draws minerals from your body, therefore raising acidity levels, read about the benefits of adding pH Drops before drinking. Cheers!

I use this distiller almost daily and I'm still very happy with my purchase and very glad I got it. Water tastes perfect, whether I pre-filtered it or not. I was surprised another reviewer had problems with leaks, since I've none whatsoever. The unit makes a very useful white noise, which is better for reading than for conversation though it doesn't bother me (I usually run the unit at night). I have not noticed much difference in distilling time, whether I use hot or cold water. I do get a lot of mineral deposits left over. However, I can remove them easily with a sponge or with the solvent that was provided.

(More customer reviews)I purchased a Crystal Quest single counter top filter direct from the company. It arrived promptly but the diverter valve was defective. I called and they said they would send me a new valve. The second one didn't work right. Leaked all over the place. Not only that I was charged for the replacement valve on my credit card, without authorizing it. At that point I decided I didn't want anything more to do with the company so I called them and told them I wanted to return the unit. They refunded my money, but they refused to pay the shipping $13.00 Why I should pay shipping for a defective item I really don't get. In addition, upon further research I found that water containing fluoride has to stay in contact with the filter media much longer than it does in this unit in order to do a really good job eliminating the fluoride. The three stage filter product may be better, but the best solution I could find was actually a combination of a reverse osmosis and carbon block filter system. Much more expensive of course.

We run our water through a large and small particle sediment filter at the source/pump room. We also have the UV sanitizer after the main in the house. Previously we only had an additional small particle sediment filter in the home and we had problems with bad smelling ice from the in door ice maker of our fridge. The water also had a mild bitterness to the taste, it was tested and came back free of contaminants, but the taste was still there. We replaced our sediment filter with this Crystal Quest 7 stage whole house filter, and what an AMAZING distance. The ice cubes are crystal clear and free of any foul smell and taste, and the water from the tap has never been better! The filter system did not affect our water pressure, which was our only concern as it has a lower flow rate than many others out there, but again there is no change in our pressure, so we could not be happier with this purchase.

(More customer reviews)Sorry folks, but I don't know if I got a lemon or what, but after following instructions on how to install the filter,etc, the end result was water tasting like plastic. The only way i can assume this happened is that the filter sat in the warehouse in the dog days of summer long before it came into the consumers hands. Too bad because it installed and was fine otherwise, but the taste cannot be ignored. Amazon had the best price for this but if I were you, I would probably buy locally if you can. Otherwise, it's a crapshoot in terms of knowing if you will get one that is free from plastic taste or not.

For 5 to 10 more dollars, you can get an under sink unit by Culligan that is easy to install, comes with a 3-month filter in the package (level 1 filter), and is easy to upgrade to more advanced filtration (up to level 4).
Summary: I am thoroughly impressed with this unit. I will update the review as time goes by if it breaks, or anything leaks, but it is well built and looks solid, and delivers water that I would say tastes better than Brita water.
I live in Upstate New York, where the water quality is OK, but there is often a lot of chlorine in the water. My main concern was reducing the chlorine taste, and this unit certainly does deliver.
I am breaking my review down into 5 parts, with each part getting 1 star weighting: 0 means poor, 1/2 means OK, and 1 means excellent
Ease of Installation: 1 star
I have been known to be a clutz around the house but I was able to do it without having any leaks or having to install any extra fittings. Everything is snug and tight out of the box. The fittings that come with the filter have a plastic inset that you can remove to fit directly on 3/8" OD pipe or feed line. They are not gimpy fittings, despite what you might think of a press together fitting. All of the fittings were snug and secure upon install. Water pressure tends to hold them together even more tightly when the system is pressurized.
Installation tip: (This applies if you have 3/8"OD plastic feed line going to your faucet) Instead of cutting the feed line you already have installed, buy a $3 feed line at a hardware store and cut it in half using tin snips or a sharp knife. Then you can turn the water off, remove the old feed line, and install the new feed line connected to the Culligan. This way, if something goes wrong, you can connect the old feed line back up and be back with running water in only 10 minutes or so.
The entire install takes only 30-45 minutes and if you have the right tools, you may not even need a trip to the hardware store.
Don't forget the silicone (waterproof) grease on the o-rings!
Water Flow: 1 star
I admit I was surprised by the voracity of the water flow. I haven't measured it in GPM, but it is nearly the same rate as when there was no filter installed.
Taste: 1 star
Water tastes fresh and clean and there is no aftertaste.
Ease of Use: 1 star
Turn on the tap, it works. No waiting for a pitcher to filter or worrying about if you'll have enough water to boil pasta without waiting 10 minutes, etc.
Upgradability: 1 star
You can buy a level 4 filter (the D40), which reduces lead and other nasties in the water, for about the same price as you pay for this unit, and it lasts for 6 months. Or, there is the Level 3 filter (the D30), which does almost as much as the D40, lasts for a year, and costs half as much. In terms of cost, it is really hard to beat the value of the D30.
Included Filter: 0.5 stars
If you want a higher degree of filtration you can always buy a level 2, 3, or 4 filter separately. However, the Level 1 filter makes your water taste nice, and for the price of the filter unit, is a nice addition. Some stores advertise units that do not include a filter, but not this particular seller.
The correct filter to buy for this unit is the D10, D20, D30, or the D40.
I am rounding up my 4.5 star review to 5 stars on Amazon, giving an extra 0.5 stars for the good feeling I got after installing the filter (and because you can only do 4 or 5 stars, not 4.5)!

14ALL/83125 Sears/Kenmore Cut-to-Fit Replacement Carbon Pre-Filter Review

I have a large older model Kenmore HEPA 220 and I could only get one filter out of this package after cutting about one third of the material away, but it fit well, was easy to trim and then install to the purifier and even if I only got one filter out of it, the price was MUCH more reasonable than the Sears site or buying brand name. I recommend this filter for anyone who has the correct purifier and doesn't mind trimming the filter (all you need is normal household scissors, nothing fancy). Breathe well!

Aqua-Pure AP217 Replacement Cartridge for Drinking Water System Filters Review

(More customer reviews)There are many filtration systems that fit under your sink. I chose the Aqua-Pure system years ago because it is compact and took care of the rather modest drinking water problems in this area, mostly just the chlorine taste. My filter is hooked up to a separate water faucet that is used only for drinking, coffee and cooking water.
The Aqua-Pure does a good job for me. The water tastes just fine, no chlorine taste or smell, no noticeable impurities. Changing it every six months is best in this area. If I wait a year, the water flow is too slow and the the water tastes so much better after the replacement, indicating that I was being too cheap and should have replaced it earlier.
Changing it isn't too bad. Bear in mind that both the outer case and the filter cartridge itself have to be screwed in. Both are plastic and so the "feel" is sticky and vague and tightening is not intuitive. Be careful, especially with the cartridge as that little nipple is not exactly robust.
So, this system works, is hidden and handy. Are the cartridges worth $25 bucks a shot, at least $50 a year? I would say that if your water is not too horrible and two changes a year are ok, then the price is high, but relatively affordable. If your water is worse, then I think you would be better off with something like a reverse osmosis system. If the water in your area is truly horrible, then you need a special industrial system. Even if the price of filters is ok with you, the Aqua-Pure is for low-flow use at a tap only.
And, as with any dedicated water filter, adding a separate faucet can be difficult or look odd. I got a sink with enough openings to make adding a faucet easy enough and it integrates nicely.
At some point, order the gasket for the housing. Good to have on hand just in case. Mine has lasted years, but you never know...
Three stars because the product works as advertised. Lost two stars for higher than necessary cost and somewhat chancy tightening with plastic to plastic threads.

(More customer reviews)I have a W12 Bionaire Humidifier that requires TWO of these filter packs. Check your humidifier carefully before you order, I thought I was ordering a spare filter, but in fact required two quantity of this product. The part ordered here is for one single filter (there are two filter elements per pack).
The filters fit perfectly. They are exactly what are required, for about a month worth of humidification air filtration. If you are a little bit handy, there is an infinitely less expensive solution to this, well, I hate to say it, but, highway robbery. Purchase a standard furnace filter, 3M Filterette is a really great choice. The plastic frame of these filters pop apart fairly easily (there are a series of tabs you pry apart). Cut down the furnace filter, and place it inside the plastic frame. Be extremely careful with the sharp ends of the wire mesh on the filter.
Adding things up, four pairs of these filters per humidification season plus a wick, and this humidifier is a very expensive unit to run.
