(More customer reviews)Have used several less expensive HEPA filters in the past with less than stellar results - the Blueair 501 cleans the air more thoroughly - I would wake up occasionally coughing before (most likely due to pet dander) - have not had this happen since running the purifier at night on setting "4" of 5. I also have a neighbor who's second-hand smoke sometimes drifts in through the pipe fittings - the smell has disappeared, too. This unit is more expensive but it's worth it - am very satisfied!

On January 14, 2008, I ordered two sets of replacement filters for my Blue Air 601. In addition to the confirmation email from Amazon (Jan. 14), I was also sent the UPS tracking information from Home & Beyond with the expected shipping date the following day. Both my items were delivered on January 16th. Can you even imagine a two-day turnaround! My experience with this whole process has been one of the best I've ever witnessed. It truly was a "perfect" transaction, and I'm very impressed with Polsteins fast service and excellent communication. Not only that, their prices were the best and offered free S&H ... that combination can't be beat! Thank you Amazon and Home & Beyond. I will definitely be ordering again!

(More customer reviews)I would give this product 5 stars if the filters were availble. I have had this air purifier in my office for nearly two years now and have been searching for replacement filters. If anyone knows where to purchase them, please provide info. I have written to the company and received no response. I believe it works well and would like to continue using it but I have basically had to remove and wash the two filters that came with the product. The only other option I have is to unplug it and throw it out. I truly hope there are filters out there and that the company did not plan on everyone throwing these into the land fill after 1 year!! The UV light also needs to be replaced.

(More customer reviews)I originally bought this Hunter 30785 because it was on sale and this was my first purifier. I really didn't know what to expect. I plugged it in and within minutes could smell a cleanliness in the room. The two nights I had it running while I was sleeping, I noticed I could breathe easier and my wife said I didn't snore. I returned it to the store because I wanted one with a filter that could just be cleaned instead of replaced every year for about $50. I tried the Honeywell 17000 and the Honeywell 50250 which were both True Hepa filters for about a week each and my snoring continued and the clean smell wasn't in the room. I also tried the Germ Guardian UV-C purifier and also noticed no difference. I went back to the store and bought two of the Hunter 30785 models and I am back to sleeping like a baby. I will deal with the added cost of the filters to get a quality product.
And just to correct an earlier post, this purifier does come with filters.

HEPA filter is 99.97% effective at removing particles as small as 0.3 microns from the air that passes through the filter. For optimum performance, replace filter every 12 months.

HOLMES HAP240 Air Purifier Review

(More customer reviews)With 100 watts and a tiny coverage, this purifier is not energy efficient. The HEPA filter replacement for this product is so overpriced that the difference between the filter and the complete unit is only about $5-$10. Worse, Holmes stated that the HEPA filter must be replaced on 3-6 months of continued use. That's a pretty short life.
Quiet? nah. In fact it ties on loudness (on mid setting) with my Hamilton Beach TrueAir 04161, just slightly quieter on high setting ,and actually louder in lowest setting. The sound produced is also a rough motor type sound, which is not so pleasant to hear.
Its CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate, a measurement standard for air purifiers -- www.cadr.org) is only a measly 55-70.
However, it does its job removing particles from the air quite well on high setting.
If you can, get a better air purifier that has a cheap and long lasting HEPA filter.
