(More customer reviews)Solid choice based on the 402 with an upgraded motor more powerful that that found in current (2010) model 400 series units. Lose a point for an ion brush plate with four brushes versus the seven brushes found in current 400 series models. Despite what the directional airflow arrow on the VOC filter denotes, install the filter with the prefilter side (it is not a carbon postfilter) facing the ion brushes. All three units I haved tested emit airflow noise akin to rustling turbulence when used with the VOC filter. Unit also supports the use of Particle 402PF and SmokeStop 402SF filters. Why the MD Pro over IQAir at this price range? Size, overall decibel levels at comparable airflow ratings, power consumption (important when running the unit 24/7) and a superior warranty (10 years versus 5 years). Annual filter costs averaged over a five year period also favor the MD Pro (single MDPROVOCF filter with a 12-month filter life). Why not the MD Pro over IQAir at this price range? Degradation of filter efficiency due to loss of electrostatic activity as the filter media clogs, fewer pounds of carbon in the filter, some bypass of unfiltered air which accumulates on the exposed fan and motor of the MD Pro and vacuum maintenance requirements. FYI, I own multiple MD Pro units as well as an IQAir HeathPro Plus and am fully satisfied with them all.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this machine about six months ago. I have four small pomeranians who are house dogs and are inside while I am at work. I put down pee-pads for them while I am away at work, so you can imagine, I really wanted an air purifier to keep any odors out of the air. I am very happy with this unit's performance.
It is heavy but can be wheeled from room to room on its casters.
It is not the quietest machine - however, for those of you who sleep with fans on or white-noise machines, you can throw those out as this until will replace them and put you to sleep in their place. It does put out a LOT of air volume on high - again if you sleep with a fan on for air flow and want this in your bedroom, you can dispense with it and save on your electric bill by not running both machines.
I have not had to replace the filter yet - which carries a hefty cost - but I consider it an investment in health and quality-of-life so to me it is worth the cost.
It took about two days to really kick in but now when I come into the room, there is definitely a sweet smell in the air. Not sweet as in perfumery but sweet as in fresh-air smell.
I definitely will buy another one of these units when I can afford to, for the living room.

Austin Air Pet Machine Review

(More customer reviews)We have had 2 labs for less than a year...the pet machine was bought shortly after the arrival of the second one (a 6 year lab -already house broken!). I felt like the machine worked for less than a week to rid house of "dog smell". There has never been a smell of "accidents" - just that dog odor that I never wanted. We have hard wood floors so there is no carpet to trap odor. Dogs are not on furniture. Machine is by their beds. Beds are vacuumed almost daily and washed often. We vacuum all floors daily. Made mistake of emailing Austin Air directly to complain and was completely dismissed. (even though I was in my 30 day window to return). I did hear from a nicer lady from the place I actually bought it from (through austin air's website?) and she convinced austin air to send me a new filter. It has not changed anything. For all its promises, I cannot say it produces any results on any of them. I am very disappointed with it.

(More customer reviews)I just got my new purifier today, exactly when amazon said it would get here. I just opened it up and the uv light is broken, but i talked to amazon and there sending me a new one. I guess i'll see how it workes without the light untill the new one gets here...
The new one arrived on time again, but im returning it also. I've had it running constantly for a week now and it hasn't done anything. It is almost silent, but i would rather it make a little noise, the white noise helps me sleep. But there is no way it filters the amount of air it claims too. After running for a week straight it doesnt even have a bit of dust on it, not even a fuzz or cat hair. It doesn't have enough suction to even hold a small napkin on the intake side. I also didn't notice an inprovement in my allergies or asthma. Air filters that I have used in the past have helped my allergies and aspecially my asthma at night. I can't even say it might be a problem with just one unit, because both units i had did almost nothing. They did work ok at clearing oder from the air but that might just be the ozone working. I had a friend sit right next to it and smoke and i dont think any of the smoke went threw the filter and the smell was still there the next morning. It did work on the cat box smell in the bathroom almost overnight, but my bathroom is really small. So i wouldn't recomend this product to anyone but for my first time ordering from amazon i was impressed with them.
I have since bought a honeywell and a kenmore air filter in the same price range and am much happier with them.

(More customer reviews)i bought this air purifier after i was genuinely disappointed by another one - the Surround Air Xj3000 C (check my review on that one if you wish ) and honestly i didn't expect a lot. but was i wrong...:)))) this unit is absolutely amazing - lots and lots of power, strong but yet quiet fan (you barely notice it on the first 2 settings) very nice design and as i was able to understand first hand- excellent customer service on the part of the Winix people - i had a few questions and they were all answered very promptly .
When i said - "lots and lots of power " just consider this - my living room is about 400 sq.feet. there were three smokers in it puffing for a few hours. the air purifier is either on turbo mode or the third setting. all the windows and doors are closed. two friends of mine came in and they COULD NOT tell that anybody did smoke in the room!!! no smell, NADA !!!and that is about cigarette smoke - the one that stays for days and really really stinks.
another example - after a few hours of use i opened the cover and checked the carbon filter - guess what - it was clogged with my cats hair ( the little guy shreds a lot ) , and i just vacuumed the house that same day! now i know and i check that pre-filter every 2 or 3 days and vacuum it just to be sure i get all the suction i'm supposed to.
to put it briefly - cigarette smell - gone, cat smell- gone, litter box smell -gone, dog smell ( yes, we have a dog too :)) - gone. when my wife cooks - we put the Winix it the kitchen - cooking smell -you guessed it - gone the second it hits the unit.
In conclusion - I'm very satisfied with the Winix 5300 and hope it lasts a while . it's a great air purifier for a very fair price . Amazon did a great job with the shipping - it came in 3 days even with the Super Saver shipping. i'm giving it only 5 stars just because they don't let me rate it six:)))))
